Penny Dryburgh
- Service Manager
Job Title: Service Manager
Employee name: Penny Dryburgh
Year of Joining: 2002
I am the Service Manager working in Berwickshire. I joined Streets
Ahead in December 2002 and was initially involved with co-ordinating
and developing the Outreach Service in Berwickshire and Kelso. Many
of the people that we support are adolescents, several of which
also have autism. I am now also involved in managing a 24hour support
service in Berwickshire, supporting a young woman to live in her
own tenancy.
Prior to working for Streets Ahead I worked as
a Staff Nurse in a home for people with profound and complex needs.
I starting my Nurse training at RHSC in Edinburgh and then went
on to do a Post Registered course at Gogarburn hospital. I successfully
completed both training courses before moving to the Borders.
Working with young people has been fun and interesting.
Over a period of time I have watched several of them grow and develop.
The work has included helping people access community services,
which for some people can be an anxiety provoking experience. With
the support from the Workers several of these youngsters are now
able to go to local shops, swimming pools and enjoy a variety of
activities. Most of these planned activities are now enjoyable for
the client and this support also appears to be appreciated by the
families.
Working for Streets Ahead has provided me with
an opportunity to develop my career and work with clients within
different settings. No two days are the same as the work is diverse
as well as being fun, although at times it can also be challenging.
